Celebrate with Us! It’s National Pumpkin Day!
It’s officially fall y’all! You know what that means, right? ‘Tis the season of pumpkin everything. From lattes to pies to breads, pumpkins go hand in hand with this time of the year. In fact, National Pumpkin Day happens to be this month, on October 26! If you haven’t already, now would be the perfect time to grab a pumpkin and start enjoying some of the season’s greatest festivities.
On this National Pumpkin Day, we thought it would be fun to let you in on some interesting facts about pumpkins and how they relate to your health. Also, it wouldn’t be National Pumpkin Day if we didn’t give a little shout out to one of our favorites at CHC Medical Weight Loss and Spa: The Pumpkin Peel Facial!
A Little Bit About the Pumpkin
Pumpkins are a member of the gourd family, which includes cucumbers, honeydew melons, cantaloupe, watermelons and zucchini. They are also considered fruits, not vegetables! Pumpkin plants are native to Central America and Mexico, and now grow on six continents (Antarctica is the exception). In the 1500s, after French explorer Jacques Cartier explored the St. Lawrence region of North America, he reported finding what the French called “gros melons.” The name was translated into English as “pompions,” and has since evolved into the word we know today as “pumpkin.”
Pumpkins: Good for Your Health
Not only are they fun to carve, but when eaten, pumpkins happen to be one of the best-known sources of beta-carotene. Beta carotene is a red-orange pigment found in plants and fruits, especially carrots and colorful vegetables, and is converted into vitamin A, an essential vitamin and antioxidant for our bodies. Pumpkins are also full of fiber, potassium, and vitamin C, all which help with:
- Reduced risk of stroke
- Balanced blood sugar
- Stabilized hormone levels
- Lowered blood pressure
- Lean muscle mass
- Preservation of bone mineral density
- Lowered chances of developing kidney stones
- Prevention of degenerative eye damage
- Easing inflammation and aching joints
Give Your Skin a Glow: Pamper with a Pumpkin!
Pumpkins not only offer a treat for our taste buds, but as you can see, they are versatile, and who knew, so good for us? Did you also know they are good for nourishing our skin, too?
At CHC Medical Weight Loss and Spa, we have always recognized the power of the pumpkin! Our Pumpkin Peel Facial offers keratolytic and antioxidant therapy that will brighten and rejuvenate your skin. Salicylic acid loosens and clears away dead surface cells while the rich nutrient content in this treatment infuses the skin with high levels of vitamins C and A. This combination also strengthens the collagen matrix that supports healthy, younger looking skin, while protecting the skin from free radical damage.
Our Pumpkin Peel Facial is both gentle and effective. And since pumpkin is rich in alpha hydroxy acids, your skin will be silky smooth from an added boost in your skin’s cell turnover. Suffer from acne? Our Pumpkin Peel Facial also aids in fighting inflammation, reducing pore size, and controlling excess oil. Its exfoliating properties prevent the appearance of pimples, blackheads, and other bothersome blemishes.
We might be a tad more excited than usual at this time of year, but after experiencing one of our services, like the Pumpkin Peel Facial, you will easily see why. Come celebrate the pumpkin with us this fall at CHC Medical Weight Loss and Spa!
